FIDARE was founded in 2001 by five trade associations of publishers operating in Piedmont, Campania, Sardinia, Sicily and Calabria. At present, it includes over 100 members all over Italy. After modification of the articles of association, it is now possible for a single publisher to join in the group provided that it be independent and have a minimum two yearly publications catalogue.

Fidare's members can benefit from information and advice about current regulations, as well as several special conditions for courier expeditions, loans and tax consultancy.
